If you’re thinking about getting a nose piercing, you’ve probably already done the usual things. You’ve searched for a place for piercing in Karachi, looked on Pinterest for inspo pictures, and if this has been on your mind for a long time, you probably stared at people’s nose piercings too. It always starts like that. Then suddenly you’re imagining what it’ll look like on your face, whether it’ll hurt, whether you’ll accidentally yank it out when you wash your face.
At Galima Professional Piercing and Aftercare , this whole little spiral of thoughts happens with clients all the time. Someone walks in looking pretty sure about what they want, sits down, and then right before the piercing they go “okay wait… one question.” And that question turns into two or three more. Which honestly is a good thing. Nose piercings look simple but your nose is right there in the middle of your face, and it shows no matter what you’re doing, so of course, teeny details matter.
These are the kinds of questions people actually ask when they’re about to get a nose piercing. So read them all so you don’t go back and forth on your decision. Even if you do, at our store, our piercers don’t mind.
If my eyes tear up when you pierce my nostril that’s normal, right?
Women and even men ask this all the time before their session or even right when we are about to pierce. They ask this usually a bit quietly, almost like they think it’s a dumb thing to ask. It really isn’t though. Seriously, piercers hear all sorts of questions. And yes, most of the time your eyes do water a little. It’s just a reflex from that area. Not because it stings badly or anything dramatic like that. It happens due to your nose’s connection with the tear ducts, that’s all. So your eyes just get watery for a few seconds, you’re not crying.
It catches people off guard the first time. Someone will blink a few times and go “wait, I am not crying,” and then their friends tease them, or everyone just laughs about it. And we love it because laughing is better than panicking if you ask us.
I don’t like the look of the stud on my nose, so can I start with a hoop?
It’s true, hoops just look so much better on some people. In fact most women picture themselves in a hoop version of a nose piercing for as long as they first decide to get it done. We understand all of these hopes and visions. But piercers usually recommend starting with a stud first. You may ask, why? The reasoning behind it is simple: hoops move a lot, studs don’t. When you’re smiling or sleeping a hoop moves excessively but if you think about a stud it will move but not much because there’s no space for it to. You must be thinking what’s all this fuss about moving. Well, too much fiddling or movement can irritate the freshly pierced area. Stud is the better option because it’s rotatable but doesn’t move all the time.
To answer your curiosity, yes, you can start with a hoop but you’d rather not. It’s not recommended. Later on, when the swelling settles and the area heals you can switch easily.
What if I yanked it out when washing my face?
This question is understandable too and usually comes as a result of overthinking. If this possibility bothered you too then you must’ve been imagining your daily routine in slow motion. From waking up to rubbing on your cleanser and rubbing your nose, all might feel risky.
But relax, many people get their nostril pierced and they pass through it without these accidents. The first couple of weeks just ask for more vigilance from you. So just be careful and soft like instead of rubbing your face, pat dry or avoid knitted clothes. And in the end if it gets tucked on slightly it’s fine. It may become a bit painful but reheal on its own. We recommend following the aftercare we have talked about in our other blogs.
Is a bump appearing out of nowhere normal?
If someone doesn’t ask this beforehand, they usually panic later so it’s good to ask all these things from your piercer.
Nose piercings sometimes develop small irritation bumps while healing. Not always, but often enough that it’s associated with a freshly pierced nose. The thing is our nostrils are prone to getting these bumps even after they’ve healed. It usually happens if the jewelry gets constantly bumped, twisted too much, or if you start touching it constantly. The bump can look dramatic but most of the time it’s just a sign for you to leave it alone. It’s a sign of irritation.
When you go back to simple aftercare and leave the piercing alone, the skin usually flattens by itself. But mind you, the hardest part is resisting the urge to poke it every few hours to see if it’s gone yet.
Which side of the nose should I pierce?
This one is always an endless debate. In fact sometimes people come to us settled on a side but switch at the last minute just to try something new. For some ladies it can be choosing a cultural side. You can look at yourself in the mirror and look at both sides from a distance. We would suggest choosing the side that you think is your good side profile. Sometimes there’s no side of your face better than others but if you think you look good for instance from the right side why don’t enhance that. If you think you look good you feel confident and piercings are all about that confidence, the glam and self expression.
Usually a piercer will mark the spot first so you can see it before anything happens. That moment when you look at the mirror and go “yeah okay that actually looks good” is important. If it doesn’t feel right, it’s easy to adjust before it’s pierced. Once the needle goes through though, that’s the spot so speak up and our team will do as you say.
Can I sleep normally with a fresh nose piercing?
This is one of those things nobody’s mind goes to until the first night. If you normally sleep face down or pressed into your pillow, you might wake up the next morning thinking, “Oh, it hurts more than I imagined”. It’s usually just a little tender at first but yes sleeping on it can become painful. The solution most people figure out by themselves is sleeping on their back or slightly on the side for a week or two. Or we suggest getting those donut shaped pillows so you can sleep face down by putting it in the circle. After a short while the piercing stops feeling like a new thing and just becomes part of your face. It means you get used to it and gradually the area also becomes less sensitive.
How can I be sure a studio for piercing in Karachi is safe?
People don’t always ask this out loud but you can see them being a bit suspicious and looking around. But at our store you don’t have to do all this or be dicey. It’s because we have multiple locations in different cities of Pakistan including Karachi and Islamabad. Secondly we only use hypoallergenic jewellery and all of our staff are professionals. In our experience a good studio should be hygienic, organized, professional and safe. And here we implement this.
When people visit us , that sense of professionalism is usually the thing they notice first which is why they feel the service they are getting is great value for what they paid. We have clients come in with their babies after they got an ear piercing and trust us enough to bring their children for dazzling ears.
